The best way to spend an online advertising dollar

A bit old post (Feb05) but didn't notice it before. Important facts about online advertising performance. In Online Advertising you have to pay attention to the statistical performance. You can't get 50% CTR with an extremly super-cool ad.

The following stats from Ad:Tech's December conference clearly shows the pecking order for online marketing. Not surprisingly, a company's "email house list" (basically people with an ongoing relationship with a company) yields the highest success rate, followed by paid search ads. Contrast that with the 12% yield of a rented email list, and you can clearly see how useless spam is for real marketing purposes.
